Statement from MPAA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin on World IP Day

WASHINGTON – The following is a statement from Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) on World IP Day – an annual recognition by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to highlight the role intellectual property rights play in encouraging global innovation and creativity.

“On this World IP Day, we are encouraged by President Trump’s proclamation recognizing the importance of intellectual property to American culture, U.S. jobs, and our nation’s economy. Creators and innovators depend on intellectual property rights to create and distribute their works in the marketplace, including online. Across multiple industries, intellectual property supports 45 million U.S. jobs, including more than 2.1 million jobs in film and television. The Administration’s commitment to protecting intellectual property – at home and in international trade agreements – is critical to a vibrant creative economy. The MPAA looks forward to continued work with the Administration and Congress to ensure that America’s intellectual property framework remains a robust and steady force for promoting jobs, economic growth, creativity, and innovation.”
